NEW KILPATRICK PARISH CHURCH
open hearts, open minds, open faith
All-Age Prayer
(How many carol titles?)
Loving God
Baby God
away in a manger
we come all faithfully
to find you
in that little town of Bethlehem
and there we imagine you
see you lying on a bed of straw
“What child is this?”
the world asks
May we reply
this is the infant lowly, infant holy
Jesus Christ
So let us travel tonight
from shepherds watching their flocks by night
into Royal David’s City
and shout with them
joy to the world
and ask the world:do you hear what we hear
hark the herald angels sing
and may we sing with them
and tell the world
love came down at christmas
and as with gladness men of old
follow that star
may we follow it too
to that first noel
and find the child in the manger
and when we pause
in the silent night
we hear the angels sing
glory to the new born king
and hear in their song
and every carol
the invitation
our invitation to you O God
Come, O come Emmanuel

Christmas Eve
John 1
Christmas Eve Blessing
May you find light
shining
in all the expectation you have tonight
May you find light
restless
in the longing for birth tonight
May you find light
breathing
through the words of the prophets tonight
May you find light
unfolding
in midnight skies tonight
May you find light
bending
around the angels gathering tonight
May you find light
quickening
among the stars tonight
And may you find light
awakening
in the straw of a manger
for you
and you
and you
tonight
Christmas Eve Gathering
Let us welcome the night
for it holds a secret.
Tonight
the darkness
shrinks
and the light is born
because this night
is full of holy wonder,
sacred breath,
angelic whispers.
God is even now
stretching skin.
The word is finding voice.
No longer will heaven be silent
but in an instant
silence will shatter
not with clever words
and sacred creeds,
tonight the word
becomes the sound of a god-child
crying hysterically
filling his new lungs
with human breath
hungry for life.
Welcome to the night
of incarnation
Christmas Day Gathering
And so it came to pass…
in that small village
in that borrowed manger
in those distant times
Jesus was born
And she brought forth her firstborn…
full of life
and fulfilling hope
And so it was in those days…
Love breathed
Justice cried
Truth moved
& God became human
And our eyes at last have seen him…
Emmanuel
