NEW KILPATRICK PARISH CHURCH
open hearts, open minds, open faith
April Fool
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark
the sun paused
the angels hushed
the alleluias shifted
Early on the first day of the week, while the stars faded
the dew fell
the leaves fluttered
the stone moved
Early on the first day of the week, while the moon set
the moon brightened
the birds cleared their throats
the women gathered
Early on the first day of the week, while morning broke
the grave-clothes fell
the tomb cracked
the light sparked
the angels gasped
hope bowed
the word spoke
the gardener walked
God sang
the universe celebrated
the saviour breathed
and love returned
Early on the first day of the week, while the dawn spilled
Jesus stood
Mary cried
and God had the last laugh
Prayer
Risen,
alive,
back,
breathing,
resurrected…
What new ways to describe you today O Love!
We ended up speaking of you as:
dead,
broken,
crucified,
but now:
restored,
dynamic,
awake,
aware,
resurrected.
On Friday the words ran out
we had nothing left to say
Now we have new words:
vibrant,
vivid,
laughing,
living,
resurrected.
May we speak again
in this new way,
and give the world
new words:
hope,
grace,
light,
faith,
love…
each word
filled with resurrection promise
and alleluias.
So be it
Amen
Easter Day
John 20:1-18
Break and Egg Today
What do you do with an egg: break it. Sound effects
Say to the world today
what was thought impossible
is now possible
that the tomb was empty
and death is broken
Say to the world today
what was impossible yesterday
is possible today
the old ideas are shattered
Say to the world today
the stone that was so heavy
has rolled
the light streams in
for the darkness has cracked
Say to the world today
all that was unsure
is now certain
the truth is alive
and the lies have crumbled
Say to the world today
the tomb is empty
hope is back
the alleluias are being sung
and the silence has snapped
Say to the world today
this is the good news
and is cannot be contained
and we will share a piece
the peace
with everyone.
